Law Firm Websites Affected (and Possibly Penalized) By Recent Penguin 5.0 Update

In a recent interview, Chris Dreyer of shared key details to help attorneys determine if the October 4 Penguin 5.0 algorithm update affected their law firm website. specializes in attorney internet marketing.

This algorithm specifically targeted keyword stuffing and frequent use of anchor text.

Many lawyers work hard to generate traffic to their legal website so they can convert visitors into prospects and prospects into law firm clients. Chris suggested that attorneys check their Google Analytics to determine if there has been a significant change, as of October 4th, in the traffic to their website. Lawyers who have seen a decrease in traffic to their law firm website may have been affected by this recent update.

Chris also encourages attorneys to vary their keywords -  using synonyms, plural versions and reorganizing the order of the keywords in a keyword phrase.

If you’re loading your image alt tags with a ton of keywords, be cautious; this algorithm is keeping close tabs on those details and penalizing overstuffing of keywords.
