Full service, global law firm is looking for an experienced Practice Development Manager to support the largest practice group (labor & employment) in their home office/Chicago. The Practice Development Manager will manage all aspects of the largest department at the firm, consisting of 350 lawyers. The Practice Development Manager will be responsible for helping to set implement strategy, drive projects and meet accountabilities set by the Chair and the Practice Groups. Position requires a high energy, entrepreneurial, focused leader who has an expertise in building and managing teams across a national platform. The  Practice Development Manager reports to the Director of Practice Management and works under the supervision of the Labor & Employment Department Chair and Practice Group Leaders. The Manager will also work closely with the National and Regional Marketing & Business Development Managers as well as the Professional Development Managers, and other administrative managers of the Firm.

Responsibilities for Practice Development Manager:

  • Develop the department business strategy and implement the business plans.
  • Daily work with teams across the country on execution of business plans and projects.
  • Must monitor and formally report on the progress of each plan on a quarterly basis.
  • Participates in the development of the Department and Practice Group Marketing Plans with the National Marketing & Business Development Manager, Department Chair and Practice Group Leaders. On a daily basis, responsible for driving business development initiatives and accountable for working with teams and leading projects to completion.
  • Serves as a liaison with the Professional Development Department in coordinating the evaluation of associates and income partners, in-house continuing legal educational programs, mentoring programs and other professional development activities. Assists the Group Leaders in developing and maintaining experience and training checklists for associates in the Practice Groups. Also assists the Practice Group leaders in work assignment issues.
  • Reviews and analyzes the monthly financial reports prepared by the Finance Department. Prepare an hoc financial analyses requested by the Department Chair or Practice Group Leaders. Assists the Department Chair in setting billable hours goals on an annual basis.

Requirements:

  • * Undergraduate degree in business or related field.
  • * A minimum of 8-10 years of experience with three to five years working in a professional services environment. Law firm or management consulting experience preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional managerial and facilitation skills in order to motivate and facilitate practice group activities and meetings.
